- Install H beams typically 12 feet on center.
- Usually H beam is 1/3 below grade and 2/3 above grade for lower elevations.
- H beam can be mounted on concrete footing or foundation, set in the ground and surrounded by concrete, or set in the ground and backfilled with gravel.
- H beams should be straight and uniformly spaced, top to bottom, with the next H beam.
- Boards are diagonally slid into the pockets of the H beams.
- The first board should be level and placed either in or on the ground.
- Each additional board is slid into the H beam and snapped onto the tongue of the board below it.
- A mallet can be used to snap the boards together and a pry bar can be used to un-snap them. No screws or bolts are necessary.
- If the width of the H beam pocket is wider than the thickness of the board, a shim can be inserted to keep the board tight. Shims can be fabricated steel angles or a pressure treated board.
